these questions have been asked countless times on the forum and finnaly i will make this topic to clear all doubts about these subjects.

How to install .rar files


First of all you must know that all files of the forum except pics are posted on rar or zip format. this is an compressed type of format and you can put normal files like .sis or .jar in a single .rar or .zip file. the files must be in these formats in order to be posted in the forum.

in order to open these files you must have WINRAR or WINZIP installed on your computer. however i advise you to install winrar because its the best one.

the process to get the files you want from the rar file is very simple:
you just open the rar file, right click on the file you want to extract and choose "extract to specified folder". then choose the folder which you want the file to be placed in.

OR you can just drag the file to the folder you want to place the file in your pc but you must have that folder opened on the explorer.
select all files on the rar file and do the same process if there is more then one file on the .rar file.

then all you need to do is select the .sis or .jar file (or any other) and transfer it to your phone through the methode you wish (bluetooth, infrared, cable)

But there is another way to do this. the methode i have shown above is for people who use the pc. for people who use their phone to download files you can also use a special app called ZIPMAN.

this app is very simple to use. just send the .rar file to your phone and you can extract the files you want right there on your phone, with this app, not having to use the pc.

How to play META-inf/class files games


Sometimes we come across some games, usualy java games (.jar format) that appear to be .rar files. so when you open these files you find a lot of files and folders like meta files and image files.

these files are part of the java game itself so the .rar file is actually a .jar file.

what you need to do is rename the extension of the .rar file that has all those folders and files to .jar and send it to your phone. this will able you to install the games as a usual java game.


sometimes you don´t even have to rename the extension. just tansfer the .rar file to your phone and it will appear as .jar file.


as i said above any questions that regard this tutorial about rar games can be posted in this topic. i will update this post any time i feel necessary to add more informations as the doubts appear.

I tried to install rar file in my a1k as a pmr file, but a small box appears as Set up - Not implemented. Iam able to extract the rare file in a specific location but how do I change that into a sis file.

I got a question... I am downloading these java games with extension Rar, when I unrar them using winrar, and the folder I copy it to my mobile, I am not able to access any file.. Mobile says wrong file type or extension.. As you said that we rename the rar file to Jar... ??? is that the downloaded file rar, so we don't need to unrar those files using winrar... and simply copy them to our mobile??

the rar file that you open and as all those files meta-inf, etc, is the java file. you must transfer that rar file to the phone. you often don´t even need to rename it.

ok.. and then we need a application like zipman to extract those files..??
otherwise the mobile does not recognise the file type,.. Why can't we unrar first with system and copy paste the unzip folder.

no you don´t need any aplication. just transfer the rar file to the phone and install. job done.

try to not rename it at all and send it to the phone. i did that with my 6600 and it recognized the file as .jar already.

any will do. i have 3 of them installed on my phone because some of them do things that the other don´t.

of course not, symbian files is a different story. lol :D
it is only that java files are packed almost the same as rar files so we can consider renaming rar files to jar to make it work. though i agree with what Mark_6600 said about no need to rename rar files, some phone model firmware versions do not allow it. so if it doesnt work then try to rename it to jar.

yes. if in the zip file you can not see the jar file then rename the zip file to jar. those class and meta files are components of a java file.

in sis files this problem never happens. at least it never hapened to me so you don´t need to worry about that.
on my 6600 i used to send those rar files that are supose to be java files and i didn´t rename them. when they appear on my phone they already were java files. maybe its firmware dependent so its not garanteed to work on all phone models.

just copy them to the rooth of the mmc. then using a file explorer go to the folder wher you pt them on the e:drive and click on them. they will open and start to install.

I get a zip file. I extract this on my pc and get a folder with a jar file. I send the jar file to my SE k700i to the 'Other' folder and when it's done sending it says: File saved in Other. It doesn't install. When i go to the folder i see the file but i cant install it or so. I ahve tried to send the zip file too but this didnt work either. Anyone knows what to do?

can´t help you there mate. i never owned a SE. i onl saw my brother´s V800 and in that phone you only need to transfer the file via bluetooth and it will be automatically installed.

Hey guys i've tried changing the extension to .jar but still it doesnt work.My phone(N3230) reads "unknown file format". I tried even transfering it directly to phone without extracting still too no results.Anybody pls help??

why not just open the WINrar and go to > settings, then click on the integration tab, on the left side you can see the "Associate WinRar with" then UN-check the
.jar extension. so if the .jar is no longer associated with Winrar there'll be no more option to extract the java file or (.jar).. easyy....

copy the file to your s60 phone

rename the file, example mario.rar/mario.zip to mario.jar then you'll able install it

I have installed a JAVA software called "My Stuff"-(MStS60en_FullMaza.com.jar), then i deleted it. After few days i tried to reinstall it back again. But now it could not be installed. May i know what will be the problem?

When i reinstall, it will ask if i want to "replace 1.00 wirh 1.00" follow "Save existing application data?" But after i press yes, the Installation is not processing it jump off the screen. Not nothing is installed.

When I sent some file to my phone, I can only see a bunch of pictures but no installation file i.e. .JAR.

Can you help me with my LG KU800?? I'm having the same problems as the other people does.. I made my friend send me games and application through Bluetooth. I received th files.. .jar & .jad are the file extensions. The applis are stored on my "Bluetooth Data" folder. Everytime i try to launch the application the phone says "This Operation is Not Permitted".
