well if u install k-lite codec pack ...u dont need to install ffdshow...its already installed..u can find k-lite codec pack here in the forum itself..

and man i have just tried ur method...able to convert 55mb file into 5.03mb
other than tht the quality is superb ....thanks for this lovely tip....

I use imTOO mpeg converter and use these settings...

Video:
Video Size - 176x144
Bit Rate - 96
Frame Rate - 15

Audio:
Audio Codec - mp3
Bit Rate - 32
Sample Rate - 22050
Channels - (1)MONO

All other settings are left as standard, the videos come out ok, and the sizes are fine, check out the episodes of Lost and Smalleville I have posted.

Hm, this is a lot worse than 192K Video and 48K Audio with the default XviD. (this is what i have noted as the maximum playable (ie, without jerkiness) on my QD)
This does take very little space compared to that though.

really great settings i can compress a 2 hour movie to 65mb but still have good quality but the problem is when i play it in my phone it says codec ffds not supported, any suggestions?

I have been tryin to encode smartmovie smooth and quality balanced for much time
i searched this site and could find not much
But i saw the usage of ffdshow
But it was not clear enough...
I tried something else in settings 8)
And..
At last..
I did it!
here is the way:
Download ffdshow from google searches-its free
install smartmovie converter
In smartmovie,change the encoder from xvid to ffdshow and configure it in this way:

Generic:MPEG4
FOURCC.DivX
Max keyframe interval 254
min keyframe 1
one pass quality based-%70 i recommend

Audio:
32 kbps 16000hz

U will see the difference... :P

you can change the amount of sound lag on the smartmovie player on the phone, its on the options bit.

its called the "audio preroll time". have a play with it see whats best. mine is set to 0.42 which seems to work for most of my videos

man its a problem with the smart movie 3.12 convreter when i change the setting as written on page 1 then it will not convert movies ,songs or clips but when i choose XVID codec it will convert can u help

What is the maximum kbps that can be played on 6630 ?? coz new SmartMovie's supports 1024 kbps vid whic works smooth.

Also, if ne1 has seen the 'Question n Answer' page in SmartMovie, its ritten that "For small screens (176x208, 240x320), optimal compression level is 128 – 256 kbps." But you'll see much a difference in 128 and 512 itself and further at 1024!!!
So wats ACTUALLY optimal bitrate for 6630 ?????

Hi,I've downloaded smart movie converter(3.1.00)for my N3230.The problem is that i've converted a music video mpeg file of 56Mbn to avi format.When i played this on my cell its only of 50 seconds.I've tried different configuration but still cant get it.Will someone please help me out.One more thing there is the option of landscape ,portrait and reduce frames so which one to use it. Help needed. I've even donloaded the k-codec also.

The Config is not working on SmartMovie Converter 3.20.
After finishing the file size of a 5 min video squeezes to 768 kb.!!!!??

I have noticed that the newer versions of smartmovie (mainly ver 3.xx & up) are frame rate restricting. I had Ver 2.60 (I think) on my N90 and I transfered a Divx video at a resolution of 320x240 with 44100khz stereo audio and it played smoothly at 30FPS - Im not kidding! I had 30FPS - I did not use smartmovie converter, just transfered the file.
It even worked at 30FPS on my 6630 at normal resolution.

NOW, I installed version 3.21 on both phones and now I cant play the 30+FPS, all my videos look jerky and less then 15fps. my audio starts to CRACK UP as well,..... whats going on here, is this a codec issue or just a restriction in smartmovie.

Im pretty mad avout this cause I was bragging that I had 320x240 res at 30fps on my phone, and now I have to 'DOWNGRADE' my smartmovie to play all my files.

Just to let you guys know. - Try it without using smartmovie.
I used Vegas 6 and encoded at the specs for s60 common resolution but let the framerate be 30fps,.. works perfectly on ver 2.60. BUT - your filesize is very big - twice the size.

Dude the settings are really great but after conversion the audio vedio lag becomes more than a minute. The maximum offered by smartmovie is 2.4 secs. Please help me man.

are u using the qcif resolution? that is 176x144. I`d like to have i at 320x240 for my E60. then I can also share it with my friend who has E61 and I wouldnt like to have audio lag so that I can also play it on pc. can someone help? when I tried to convert a 35 mb real media format south park episode(original resolution 320x240 only) to a smaller file size, I could only get around 28-29 mb small and bad quality.basically there was too much audio lag so I deleted it. because other videos that I have, dont have so much audio lag and it would be irritating to have to change the audio setting in smartmovie player just for this episode.

well i for my n70 i use the following settings..
Xvid codec
screen setting : n93 i.e 320*220
video bitrate 1024
audi bitrate 128
and rest of the setting i dont chage it.. i mean default..
so i got a good video result.. but takes a lil more space

delay audio quality and fast frames.... it cant even exact the audio and the frame...

i check ur setting 10x but my attemp retuns to nothing...

any suggestion on this manner coz many of my video file are ruin!!!...

video bitrate 120kbps, reduce frame
audio bitrate 64kbps
force mono

for pda phones
screen setting 320 * 240 landscape mode
video bitrate 160kbps reduce frame
audio bitrate 92kbps
force mono

and don't forget to check your memory card, mabe you have a bad memory card that cause your video file ruin.

yeah even I agree, that low res doesnt make that big diff if its properly encoded. but if u convert at high res with low bitrate it gets ruined really bad.

anyone knows how we add the fddshow codec as one of the options in smartmovie converter as mentioned b4?? i tried installin the fddshow followed by the converter.. as well as the otherway round... but didn't appear as one of the options for the codec to be used...

DivX is also quite nice codec to convert AVIs.
It works in smartmovie too.
I've attached a sampe video and a video showing how I did it.

(you might first need to install latest DivX codec though.)

umm... actually, wit due respect, i think some screen shots can help us understand the optimum settings which u have provided.. and what edition is the converter that you are talking about? i have the converter for the latest SmartMovie player.. its 3.41. that converter has no options to fill up with the 4cc and divx.. mind to help?

hey guys i have the K-lite codec pack, which includes ffdshow, but i when i want to select the compression mode in the converter option are only Xvid and (uncompressed)... what can i do? should i install ffdshow again or something? wouldnt that cause problems with the already installed codec pack?.. PLZ answer!!
According to my experience it is the best to have just one codec pack installed. I use only FFDshow which is the best IMO and everything works fine; no SmartMovie (PC app) crashes... And yes, two or more differnet codec packs can cause problems.

hello everyone, i would llike to share my settings for conversion might be helpful for people with plenty of space on phone........n i use xilisoft video concerter 3fastest n best
for 320*240 mp4
vid bitrate 224
fps 17
aspect auto
audio codec mp3
audio bitrate 96
sampling rate 22050
channels 2

a nice trick to decrease size of ur video - suppose 21[2008]DvDrip-aXXo.avi is 684*276 then while conversion dont put 320*240 instead put 320*97 which is in exact propotion to original video,
calculation - for 320(width) its 684, then for height it is ?
? = (240*276)/684
calculate by urself for College[2008]DvDrip-aXXo.avi 652*356 it would be 320*132.
hope this is helpful......
college movie got converted into 224 mb from 702mb n audio n video qualities r awesome on n82.....

for 176*144 3gp
video bitrate 160
fps 17
everything else same....

Here is my settings for smartmovie when using N95 8Gb.. The image is great but it takes space. No matter for me because i have 8gb, the image-quality is the point.
I've put a sample from heroes.S3E3 with finnish subtitles burned into the picture so disable the subtitles from smartmovie player..

The sound quality is 44100hz and 96kbps,, it could be little bit lower to save space but i like the quality :D
And if the sound lags i just use audio preroll time adjustment in smartmovie to set it right..
