View Full Version : How to format ur s60 device

It may happen that a program corrupts the C: drive of your phone. In such case, some data can be lost of course but, more annoying, some applications may not work or work only partially,...

On a Series 60 based phone, two key sequences will allow to restore your phone to a cleaner state:

Normal Reset (*#7780#) : Restores ini files from rom but preserves user data (photos, 3rd party apps etc)

Deep Reset (*#7370#) : This reformats completely the C: drive. All applications and files stored on this drive will be lost and clean default files will be rewritten.

In both case, the phone will ask you a confirmation and you will have to enter.

Use the karma button if u find this usefull!

To use the *#7370# format code ...your phone has to booth up properly. If your phone hangs on the "nokia" logo..then you cant use the code. in that case you can only use the green ky + * + button 3 trick, but since this trick doesnt work on the n-gage and older symbian phones , he just wanted to know if there is another way to do it !!

So what are u saying that if u use that code ur phones crashes? I haven't heard of it. These are the only codes. There aren't any others so watch out for what u do.

There is one more problem with N-Gage. The code for deep reset (*#7370#) does not seem to delete user files in phone memory. Only settings are reset...

U have the applications stored on mmc and it is normal for them to appear. But u forgot to say that almost 50% of them don't work. Try to format ur mmc, then the phone, then the mmc again and u have it all clean and verry fast :).

*#7370# doesn't function as hard reset in symbian 60 6.1 such as n-gage/qd... it's just like doing restore factory setting that's why you said your installed apps on your device are still working... it just restored the factory settings and not clearing up all the data! better flash it!

correction bro...*#7370# does work as hard reset even in symbian 6.1. i have a n-gage qd and have hard reset it to a clean slate on many ocassions. The important thing is to remember to remove your MMC before entering the code, and not put it back until the process is complete....or else it just resets the settings and doesnt format the phone.

those files could have been important. try to format mmc next, if not you must flash it.

As a last resort before formatting your MMC ...use FExplorer and goto E:\system\programs and delete or change the extension of any .exe files you find.Hope it helps...

1)if we do the deep format, all the application store in the phone memory such as realone player and other application will be permanently gone! is that correct??

2).i read the post..and not really understand what meaning reflash?how we can do that, is that have a special code too?

Anybody, give some infor..pls.. TQ, much-much appreciation!

antoniopre
27th February 2006, 14:12
yea...if u format, u clean every programs that you have instaled but the programs in genesis of phone stay intact...donīt need a special code, just maybe 12345 if the phone request.
stay weel

Mark
27th February 2006, 16:06
the real player is a default app of the phone. that is kept on the z: drive like all other default stuff of the phone so it can never be deleted no matter what you do.
everything else stored on phone memory like contacts, messages, calendar entries will be deleted.
reflash is flashing the phone. its a way to edit the phone OS by fixing bugs of the phone through upgrading the firmware version of the OS. its used only on complicated cases.

hello,, im sort of in a tight squeeze! ive been hadling series 60 phones for a while formatting and stuffs,,,,,, but i tried to reformat my n6630 which i have done successfuly in the past,,,now it asks for a security code before formatting begins,,,,i tried using 12345 ,,failed,, so i used dejan master code,,, failed again... i tried using the old green * 3 sign then power on,,,, doesnt work!! any advice????

When formating with the 3 butons the phone must be turned off. If it is and still won't format then its a firmware problem and you should go to a service and try to upgrade the firmware or flash it.

i think this problem happens if you've installed custom fonts. Remove all custom fonts and then try.

Your phone is infected by virus...
Install a anti virus program and scan/delete the virus

You can find lot of anti virus software here...
http://www.ipmart-forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=196
Search here...

Or for quick result just look at this thread...
