View Full Version : Internet Explorer Sucks
jass2cool 18th January 2006, 20:37 Internet Explorer Sucks
This study is from August, but I missed it. The researchers tracked
three browsers (MSIE, Firefox, Opera) in 2004 and counted which days
they were "known unsafe." Their definition of "known unsafe": a
remotely exploitable security vulnerability had been publicly announced
and no patch was yet available.
MSIE was 98% unsafe. There were only 7 days in 2004 without an
unpatched publicly disclosed security hole.
Firefox was 15% unsafe. There were 56 days with an unpatched publicly
disclosed security hole. 30 of those days were a Mac hole that only
affected Mac users. Windows Firefox was 7% unsafe.
Opera was 17% unsafe: 65 days. That number is accidentally a little
better than it should be, as two of the unpatched periods happened to
overlap.
This underestimates the risk, because it doesn't count vulnerabilities
known to the bad guys but not publicly disclosed (and it's foolish to
think that such things don't exist). So the "98% unsafe" figure for
MSIE is generous, and the situation might be even worse.

Mark 18th January 2006, 21:24 well i figured that out a long time ago. internet explorer is slow and it can´t block popups and advertisements. its rubbish. i only use firefox now.
VenSky 19th January 2006, 02:11 mmmm... im a big fan of firefox and cant get enough of the tabbing option that it provides :P
internet explorer is just to insecure, as is to be expected of most m*crosoft products.
VenSky :D
TaI 19th January 2006, 03:01 Lol yeah IE is not good it don't have blocked protected..now i'm always using firefox as browser....firefox rockssss!!!! :D well opera is good too...
ashpreet_htbk 19th January 2006, 13:01 Yes.. yes.. agree .. =) .. Firefox anytime.. BUT knowin bill gates n Microsoft ..
They r upto something and i have a feeling theyl be back with a BANG!
yaminsuzuk 19th January 2006, 13:02 yeah, prefer firefox for its advance security and fast download, opera is good too but firefox is better.
celebrex 19th January 2006, 13:45 firefox sucks too, pages load very slow. myie is one of the best browsers
TaI 19th January 2006, 14:57 myie? :) whoa this is the first time i heard about the browser....is it good mate?
Dmoe 19th January 2006, 19:22 use firefox on pc and opera on phone . Got opera for pc but not installed . Internet explorer is such a pile of **** really so glad to use firefox when working on pc !
aa10 19th January 2006, 19:58 opera and netscape is ok with me..both are the best
Extremex 20th January 2006, 08:53 I used both IE and firefox, IE is too famous that's why became suck? :(
juang 20th January 2006, 09:59 personally i prefer ie to firefox.. just my preference.. but i uses maxthon browser.. just like IE but is faster and has a lot lot more features such as tabs..
animegirl 20th January 2006, 11:48 ie not good meh? i still using it and nvr tried firefox... lols =x
pale 20th January 2006, 16:02 The power of M$ is so wide spread many web site will only display properly in IE. It may have serious flaws but it's still most widely used
isdi 21st January 2006, 04:38 I prefer using firefox myself, coz u can add many extensions, change themes, and for me it loads faster..
edan1979 21st January 2006, 04:48 during win95... instead of using the stupid ie... I use Netscape... then come the win98 ie still not improve... using Netscape also... then come opera... I use opera... happy... after that WinXP came... Still using opera... (ie suck)... found firefox... using it until now.... (ie still sux)
animegirl 21st January 2006, 11:20 oh my frenz told mi that hackers choose ie as their target, lol... umz maybe i wanna try firefox 1st :)
Xmatrix 22nd January 2006, 19:25 mozilla rockz ..i like mozilla..fast web loading...faster downloading....
howlingblaster777 22nd January 2006, 19:41 Discovered Firefox last year. Using it since then :) Fast, reliable, but slow to launch :(
I still use IE for hotmail tho...
Mark 22nd January 2006, 21:40 i only see one problem with firefox. if you have the addblock attachment pluggin installed and running it will block all ads but it will also block everyhting that uses flash. so all sites that use mainly flash can´t be seen using firefox and i must use IE in those situations.
deathvirus_me 22nd January 2006, 22:11 i only see one problem with firefox. if you have the addblock attachment pluggin installed and running it will block all ads but it will also block everyhting that uses flash. so all sites that use mainly flash can´t be seen using firefox and i must use IE in those situations.
Are u using the normal Adblock extension ??? If so then remove it and use the "Adblock Plus" extension .. it should solve your problem..
Firefox is the best i think ... specially with the proper extensions nothng beats it ... Some extensions worth mentioning are : Adblock Plus , Fasterfox , Flashgot , Download Manager Tweak , Aggregate Yahoo and Google .... does a fine job for me ....
Mark 22nd January 2006, 22:34 yes i am using normal adblock. didn´t know adblock plus existed. will check it out.
hasbull_88 23rd January 2006, 03:55 which explore is better?
is that firefox?
LayZ 23rd January 2006, 15:31 I just installed IE7 Beta 2 preview...restarted my machine with baited breath to see what new features it had...only to find that I couldn't log in to my account anymore...had 2 reboot into safe mode and uninstall it to get my pc to work again...phew no more IE for me,at least for a while...
jass2cool 23rd January 2006, 15:34 I'm sorry, but for all the naysayers saying "See, Mozilla/Firefox has bugs too", I'll take their track record over MS. Also note that how many of the IE holes are remote exploits allowing an attacker to take over your machine. Many of these idiots don't make a distinction between that and a denial-of-service to a particular site.
Tell all your non-techie friends and family to use *anything* but IE.
Oh, and Outbreak and Outbreak Express.
I read somewhere that more than 85% of all email now is spam and virii. I have to find that link, because while much of that is trojan software, it talks about IE/Outbreak as some causes for infection.
jass2cool 23rd January 2006, 15:36 and yea one more point
If you have a site that absolutely must run under IE, then install the IETab extension in Firefox and set it up to open that domain with IETab. When you visit that domain, it'll come up in a Firefox tab with IE running as the renderer, all other sites will still run under Firefox
hasbull_88 24th January 2006, 01:53 but when i use mozilla firefox,i cant use with flashget...why?
but mozilla is better than IE...
one more thing, whats your opinion bout AVANT BROWSER?
jass2cool 24th January 2006, 16:00 but when i use mozilla firefox,i cant use with flashget...why?
but mozilla is better than IE...
one more thing, whats your opinion bout AVANT BROWSER?
FlashGot is an extension for integrating FlashGet and Mozilla Firefox 0.9 or later. It is available on Mozilla Update. Note that some antivirus software may incorrecly claim that it has a virus, as it uses Visual Basic Script (.vbs) files when integrating with Internet Explorer.

An yea about avant,I ve heard about its speed an stuff, But like i said earlier anything but IE...

Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1 RC1
hasbull_88 26th January 2006, 08:43 whats different between mozilla firefox n mozilla thunderbird?
LayZ 26th January 2006, 14:58 Firefox is a browser like Internet Explorer...u surf the net with it...
Thunderbird is an email client like Outlook Express....u use it to send and receive emails..
Btw both programs are better than the ones I compared them with... :p
hasbull_88 26th January 2006, 15:38 for download p2p,which software is better?kazza or morpheus or others?

its need serial number too or not?
Bhairav 27th January 2006, 05:46 ^Limewire.com, no serial req.
LayZ 27th January 2006, 16:32 I would suggest bearshare....same network but much more comprehensive...
jass2cool 27th January 2006, 16:33 an yea the free version is truly no better than limewire pro (the paid one) . although you can get pro by seachin for "limewire pro" within limewire itself... LOL
hasbull_88 28th January 2006, 03:04 so...which one is better?liwire or bearshare?huhu...which one is the simple one?
sidewinderfly 31st January 2006, 04:08 Mozilla rules. specially with all the mouse addons
onad 31st January 2006, 08:58 I am still using opera but from d info. that i gathered here, i will definitely try firefox.
LayZ 31st January 2006, 12:15 hasbull...I suggest try both limewire and bearshare....do a search and u'll know for urself which one is better..for me its definitely bearshare...limewire returns search results from only peers who are using limewire...whereas bearshare returns results which include peers who are using any client on the gnutella network....including limewire..

im not satisfied with all that...(limewire n morpheus r better)
i try bearshare then...
thanks dude...
jass2cool 31st January 2006, 16:13 From personal experiences one thing i can say for sure is tat Limewire SUCKS your system resources, Lets see i think i shud try bearshare.... but i hardly use p2p these days. Does bearshare use tat much of your sys resources? (Its difficult to play online games like cs when limewire is runnin)
-dom- 31st January 2006, 16:24 bearshare takes up very little resource you could barely know its sleeping on the system tray. limewire takes up a lot of resources because it is java based
i also have tried internet explorer 7 and i can say it definitely beats out firefox and opera. if you want to me to upload it here i can. :)
hasbull_88 31st January 2006, 17:04 bearshare takes up very little resource you could barely know its sleeping on the system tray. limewire takes up a lot of resources because it is java based

IE 7?
ok...i try thats too...
its that a latest one?
hasbull_88 31st January 2006, 17:12 [Only registered and activated users can see links]
do you use Bearshare Gold Downloader 2.03 ?
or others bearshare?
BigMe99 2nd February 2006, 22:37 mozilla works fine for me.. but i use opera too.. never used ie for some time:D
paper_beg 4th February 2006, 20:59 usin firefox here
yah,i did realise that ie sucks but its still ok..
crypster 4th February 2006, 22:01 was never an IE user... started using netscape only switch to IE when netscape took up too much resources...
when firefox was introduced.. i have been using then till now and it has great extension that allow IE engine to run on it... which is useful when some freaking website customise their site to support IE...
hate it man...
FIrefox rocks...
Mark 4th February 2006, 22:21 maybe the papers will turn when the new IE 7.0 comes. beta version is already available and its said to be much better then any other browser. it also has tabbed browsing as firefox.
crypster 4th February 2006, 22:45 i tried it out already in window vista...
well its almost like firefox and very mac like copying almost everything of mac as well.. but wat firefox outwin it is the ability to install extension for our own use..
ie7 cant perform much except that its tab browsing nothing much special i must say and you cant tweak it nor install more function to it
juang 5th February 2006, 03:30 i dun like firefox as it start up slowly.. maxthon is great..
hasbull_88 5th February 2006, 06:50 so when the IE version 7 will be release?
now...the latest for IE is 6.0?,rite?
crypster 5th February 2006, 07:51 IE 7 will only be release in windows vista and will not release for other windows platform..
so if u wan to try it u have to use vista...
hasbull_88 5th February 2006, 11:39 lol....
so,its a bad news then for me...
huhu
crypster 6th February 2006, 12:15 it seems ms has allow the beta version for try u can download ie7 beta
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
have fun...
seems like they encouraging other windows to use haha
jass2cool 6th February 2006, 18:02 I heard it sucks system resources ... any got experiences wit ie7?
crypster 7th February 2006, 11:29 I have installed it on my system running windows xp.. the resources it take its about the same as IE6.. but it really look like firefox with some extension installed... infact it is just like my firefox configuration..
the only thing i think i failed was previously i installed a p2p program Ares and now my IE 7 blank page is named Welcome to Ares and was unable to removed it it seems to done something to my user profile as I have tried logining into another profile and its label Blank which is the correct name.
IE7 beta would be a copy of firefox if you like to know.
xxx1312 7th February 2006, 15:15 beta sucks never 2 use beta.
aa10 7th February 2006, 15:43 use opera or mozilla.. =p
jass2cool 7th February 2006, 15:56 Good to know tat... :)
hasbull_88 7th February 2006, 17:01 I have installed it on my system running windows xp.. the resources it take its about the same as IE6.. but it really look like firefox with some extension installed... infact it is just like my firefox configuration..

its that mean there was no IE v7.0 then?
like that?
icetger 8th February 2006, 22:01 after i read this i think ill use firefox from now on..but can any1 help me im alwayz disconnected when im downloading the setup of firefox at mozilla i cant finish the 5MB setup i dunno why,,but if its ok to please upload the firefox setup 1.5.01 ere for easy DL??if its not against any rules can some1 help...
Mark 8th February 2006, 23:13 just search firefox on google and it will direct you to the official page. its a free download.
remember no pc apps are alowed on the forum.
icetger 9th February 2006, 00:03 Thanx just finished downloading it dunno what happened earlier always error when downloading it on official site maybe it on my connection anywayz thanx!& sorry for requesting it i thought maybe it can upload ere..ok ill now try the many say powerful browser...LOL
icetger 9th February 2006, 02:26 Now i know why you say firefox is the best!!=] BTW is there a add-ons/extensions that can DL to see the status kbps speed & time at the bottom of the page? Like in opera browser..
crypster 9th February 2006, 10:40 its that mean there was no IE v7.0 then?
like that?
there will be IE7 for use in NT OS like 2k and xp. I was design to incorporate with vista just to let u you.
It works just like firefox with addon to be installed and search engineer to be added as well.
I am currently using firefox only for pages which i have no choice but to use IE where sites that contain IE support pages which cant display properly in firefox even when running the IE engine
LUXer 9th February 2006, 12:03 I use Firefox. It's more better than Explorer.
LayZ 9th February 2006, 12:07 But good as it might be there still are issues with firefox that need to be addressed...such as the cpu utilisation or launch time..
balitong 9th February 2006, 14:19 Opera is still the best for me. I use firefox occasionally with those site that has asp page. Most of the features in firefox has already been implemented in opera long ago.
dux82 9th February 2006, 14:42 Use firefox on pc!
crypster 10th February 2006, 11:08 first encounter error in iE7
tried out IE7 though a firefox user I just wanna test it out..
i visited one of those cracker site which have lots of pop up and activeX
if firefox everything is blocked except one or 2 pop up fails as comon on most browsers..
IE7 encounter error though it blocked the activeX and some pop up it couldnt stand the script of the cracker site... down IE7 error and closed
crypster 14th February 2006, 15:30 Any install the IE7 if you want to remove it but encounter this error: "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 cannot be uninstalled from this user account. Please log on to the same user account from which it was installed and try again."
This is a stupid bug by MS cos even if your account is the administrator it will not allow only the acct use for installing can be used.
Work around:
create a new key in the registry "InstalledByUser" under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\internet explorer" where I put my user name there, after that the uninstaller worked perfectly.
You might ask why do I want to uninstall it. Cos it really lousy it cant use certain website meant for IE6. Eg: [Only registered and activated users can see links]
Mark 14th February 2006, 17:26 beta versions always give problems thats why i never install anything beta on my pc.
the only thing beta i have ever installed was messenger 7 beta.
hasbull_88 14th February 2006, 18:54 so...when the real IE 7.0 will be released?
have any idea?
skilefido 15th February 2006, 01:14 i didn't test IE7, only heard it sux :p
opera... not quite a fan
firefox all the way
crypster 15th February 2006, 07:02 not sure when will it be release full but i was curious why ms do not allow any administrator to uninstall it only the user who install the ie7... that is so dumb of ms.
they should know and encounter this problem in their alpha stage and amended it before lauching the beta wat... think they too smart til become stupid
edan1979 15th February 2006, 08:57 that is how ms working... new thing also got a lot of security holes... and it will be always become a target from the fellow hacker/cracker
altho firefox loading times is.. sometimes.. quite unreasonable... but they still improving it.. at the latest version.. the loading have improve a bit.. and it just version 1.5.xxx
ie now reaching version 7 edi but the security problem still intact and hacker can still get into your pc using the loopholes there... :P
LayZ 15th February 2006, 14:37 Just moved from Firefox to Opera....like the McDonald's ad says "I'm loving it"
MikeRibo 23rd February 2006, 23:14 I used to browse from IE a year ago but i realised that it is not the best. I tried Mozilla and thats it!!I've nere changed it since then...
hasbull_88 24th February 2006, 03:53 owh...
whats different between firefox and opera?
hungry6 24th February 2006, 15:21 IE Explorer isn't very good. Including the 7.0 (included with vista) which has a new features but is still up to scratch with firefox, the only browser worth considering.
This is because of this highly custimizeable, highly effecient and its enhanced security features. This is why so many users, use it as their primary browser.
tquereshi 26th February 2006, 00:26 Hi i downloaded internet explorer 7 beta and i think it will be a better browser than mozilla and other alternative browsers.
Who agrees with me?
LayZ 26th February 2006, 10:49 Just Bill Gates I think :p
crypster 27th February 2006, 06:34 Hi i downloaded internet explorer 7 beta and i think it will be a better browser than mozilla and other alternative browsers.
Who agrees with me?
well good luck to you... IE can never match wat firefox has done..
why dun u visit astalavista and jobsdb.. i believe u will have lots of error and problems with new IE but not with IE6.
ie7 look inpressive but it cant handle multiple popups and its java handling is bad...
or by the way rem to uninstall using the username u install with else u will never be able to remove it even if u are the administrator... so wat so good about this big flaw.
LayZ 27th February 2006, 06:48 The public beta is now up for grabs..
crypster 27th February 2006, 20:39 The public beta is now up for grabs..
that is an old news already...
it has been tested proven lousy version than it previous version
gama_senin 2nd March 2006, 13:35 YEPP....
i agree with the mozilla....
it even has a theme that makes your browser clean, elegant and more....
MOZILLA RULE..........
ad_insane 2nd March 2006, 13:55 IE 7 seems to be good, but it crashed my system once... I use FF a long time, FF extensions sre great...
disco_stew 3rd March 2006, 02:33 IE really sucks, vunerable to popup, spyware and viruses
liviudm 4th March 2006, 22:17 I voted for Opera, because this is what I'm using right now. I'm using Opera on WindowsXP and Firefox on SUSE Linux. These browsers rocks :D
olobley 6th March 2006, 18:53 Much as I'll prolly get flamed for this, I quite like IE!
I use it for 95% of my browsing, as with sites that you know aren't going to try and compromise your PC I tend to find that I have less problems (for example, none of the online banking websites I use work properly in anything other than IE).
If I'm going on a bit of a porn binge or warez hunt, then I'll use Opera, as it checks with me before doing anything, and generally doesn't seem to have as many security holes!
metaphor 6th March 2006, 19:08 IE Really Suczz... Ever since i accidently encountered opera at my friends pc ,, i realised thr's nothing better than that,, since then im only using opera and i simply love it ..Try using friends if u have not tried it yet opera is indeed fastest browser on earth,, and about firefox ,i dunnno much but since lotz palz sayin it worth trien so i/m gonna do that.. can anyone please tell me from where that can b downloaded
LayZ 7th March 2006, 09:30 Well Firefox launch time has to be improved in some way....and don't tell me about that /prefetch extension....
spannerhea 7th March 2006, 16:39 I've been using Firefox for months now - never touch IE, it's pants.....
cheehing98 8th March 2006, 13:27 i prefer firefox now and i think its load time is okie. just its display and "right-click-functions" are yet to be improved. IE will cause u bundle of spywares...
spannerhea 8th March 2006, 19:56 And I love the skins available with FF too ....
unrandomsa 11th March 2006, 02:00 I use firefox and opera (Both under linux)
Firefox leaks memory quite badly (even 1.51)
Opera is useful as you can browse wap sites with it.
chuan556 11th March 2006, 11:52 the ie relly suck i agree with you guy,too slow for the guy like us,hahaaa
hammertime 29th September 2006, 13:15 Been using IE for years.. Never really liked opera & netscape because felt it too complicated and took a lot of resources back then.. A friend introduced me firefox 3 months ago. And now I've been stuck with it ever since then. Had lots of problems with IE, but somehow Firefox fixed all my problems and not only that. The tabbed function rocks, especially when i'm into developing websites.
expert92 15th April 2008, 02:02 no no Explorer is the best my frind
Sometimes i wonder why people still use Internet Explorer. I use Opera
9.50 Beta 2 and is is sooo fast. :good2:
