hmm.. maybe u have knew about this but its okay to explain this to a newbie..

the usual selection keys in nokia are Camera(left) and Messaging(right).. yes u can edit that word by making a mailbox and change ur selection keys to the name of ur mailbox.

so first, go to messaging
options, setting, E-mail, Mailboxes, new mailbox.
open the mailbox settings only
write the mailbox name.. anythin u want but dont get to many char. cuz if the word get too long, the word will be cut!
after write the mailbox name, just fill the * sign with anything,,
if ur done, make another mailbox!
after that, go to menu, settings, phone, standby mode, and change the right and the left selection keys!! VoiLa!!

i dont understand...how is changing the name useful? It's not like the key will have a particular user defined function or summin =/

yea its just a fun thing.. so u can change the word whatever u like but there is no function.. just to show ur expression.. like u can write ur name ex: mark 6600.. u can change the left selection key to mark(mailbox name) and change the right selection key to 6600(mailbox name).. just a fun thing once again!

if we just want to show our name or any other text on main screen then i think there are other ways to do it. the trick explained above does not do anything except defining two mailboxes and putting thier shortcuts on the left & right softkeys. please excuse me if my language is too harsh. my apologies.

1. we can create a custom profile and rename it to anything, then activate it, its name will be shown on the main screen below the operater name.

2. we can customise a photo with our name and any other text using a photo editor and then use it as a wallpaper.

3. if u dont want to use a wallpaper over ur existing theme, then modify the theme using a theme editor and modify the wallpaper bmp in the theme mbm file. add any text on the wallpaper using a photoeditor and put it back in the theme mbm. this way u can add a customised text over the theme.

but if u r bent on changing the left and right softkeys text at the same time keeping their original shortcuts or whatver shortcut then it is a little difficult but not totally impossible. i have not done it practically but i think it is very much possible.
one way to do it it may be...........by modifying the firmware itself bcoz in the setting for left and right softkeys only the apps from firmware are listed. u can modify the names and captions of the applications on the firmware and then reflash the phone with modded firmware. now the list must show the modified names

another thing i have heard about symbian phones (i don't know how true it is) is that if u put a file on C: drive with same name and extension and path as it has on the firmware Z: drive then the phone tends to load the file from C: drive, an example of it being fonts.
if this trick can work then we can put corresponding app_caption.rsc files on the C: drive and modify the captions to our liking so that the list in the softkeys settings shows modified names.
i have never tried it but i think if it can work then it will do the job.

wowowow... i'm confuse.. but its better if we keep using the mailboxes.. just changing the name of the mailboxes..
