View Full Version : How to read deleted SMS messages on any nokia s60/70/80 phone!!
tanvir 1st March 2006, 15:26 hello people..
This would help all ppl who accidently deleted an important sms and lost valuable information.
Required utility:
1) Any system explorer or file explorer program (eg. Fexplorer)
Step 1) Open Fexplorer
Step 2) Select drive C: or D: depending on the memory in which the Sms messages have been saved.
Step 3) For example u selected c: , Then open "system" folder.
step 4) Then in "system" folder open "mail" folder.
step 5) Then in this folder u will see different folders (eg 0010001_s) and certain files (eg 00100000). These files are the actual messages. Browse through every folder and open all files till u get the sms u are looking for.
Step 6) For opening the files don't choose options>file>open as it will show format not supported rather choose options>file>hex/text viewer. By selecting the "Hex/ text viewer" u ll be able to open and read the deleted SMS message.
Please post ur replies wheter it works on ur phone on not. I ve tested it on my 6600 with latest version of Fexplorer.
Note: This will not work if u ve intentionally deleted the contents of The "mail" folder.
Happy Retreival

benjiro_isozaki 1st March 2006, 16:09 its so hard to find which one is the deleted sms..
ashpreet_htbk 1st March 2006, 16:27 TOpic will move to How to section from Symbian Apps.. !
tanvir 1st March 2006, 20:32 benjiro.... its worth the effort and something is better than nothing :-)
It works better when ur inbox is empty and then u remeber u shoud'nt have deleted a sms.....
Mark 1st March 2006, 20:37 i tried deleteing sms from my inbox and they didn´t appear anymore on the mail folder. this can´t be right otherwise after a while we would have 1mb of sms files on the mail folder.
i guess that after a while those files also disappear so they are only there temporarily.

yeah that's right...you can't read deleted messages with the method posted above...
winwintoto1234 2nd March 2006, 11:48 I discussed this method in a thread before when someone says that he can't read his sms after copy and paste the mail folder. I however never tried to read the deleted sms.
Having said this, I assure that it works as when I found this method, the 1st sms I read was a deleted sms though I didn't check whether it works all the time...
tanvir 3rd March 2006, 12:30 mark... i dont think these files get deleted after a while change, why u r not getting the messages in the mail folder could be bec u are using card memory for storing ur sms therefore u need to look in E: from Fexplorer anternatively if ur using phone memory look in C:, i deleted my messages then these still appear in mail folder on my phone the deleted messages in my mail folder are as old as 7 months .
tanvir 3rd March 2006, 12:31 a little thanks would do wonders ... Thanks all
tanvir 3rd March 2006, 12:32 moreover this would work only for the text part of the message all other attachment with the message are lost.
Mark 3rd March 2006, 15:30 i know all that tanvir and yes i keep messages on e: drive but i still think those files must get deleted overtime otherwise after a while we would have a flooded mail box with old message fies.
is there a diference by storing them in the c: drive or the e: drive?
tanvir 3rd March 2006, 16:16 maybe the messages get deleted over time or upto a certain memory limit (as ur case may be becoz u said 1mb of messages were deleted, so the whole contents of the folder were wiped out) but there is no diff in storing them on c: or d:
Rinoa45 20th March 2006, 17:46 I know maybe i'm a bit late..I just noticed this thread today..
I guess @tanvir methods works..But i'm able to restore only some of my message and the rest all mix up in the file named Index..
See below.. ;)
tanvir 21st March 2006, 22:13 @Rinoa45 do look in the same path on ur MMC and phone memory must b there some place, or may be the message ur trying to retrive r too old .
