On CBR formats
cbr & cbz files

A lot of my posted links will be comics in CBR/CBZ format, so here's some basic FAQ about them. These are comic books in an archive format.

A .cbr file is exactly the same thing as a .rar file and a .cbz file is the same as a .zip file.
To display these archives easily use the free program CDisplay. If you associate these two file types with CDisplay, you never need to unpack the archives, but keep them together, then just double click to read/view the comics (of course, you can unpack the individaul images with WinRar etc any time you want).

The Windows Comic Reader utility 'CDisplay' was written to ease the reading of comics with the pages in JPEG, GIF or PNG format, without the need to open the archive at all

- What are CBZ files?
CBZ files are zipped file archives that have had their extension renamed from .zip to .cbz

- What are CBR files?
CBR files are rarred file archives with their extension changed from .rar to .cbr

- ...but why?
These are the extensions associated with the rather excellent CDisplay program, a good way to read digital comics.

- Can CDisplay read zip and rar files?
Yes but you have to run the program then open them manually.

- So why rename them?
By making file extension associations it means when you double click on a CBR or CBZ file it will open in CDisplay automatically. Zip and Rar extensions are more likely associated with an archive program and you're likely to want to keep it that way.

- So what's so good about this CDisplay program?
It's a good way of viewing image archives and has a lot of options for presentation and moving through archives, many of which are optimised for comics.

- How do I make my own CBR and CBZ files?
Archive the files as you would normally (eg Winrar. winzip etc) and just rename them with the different extensions.... yes, it's that simple!

Peter Parker Spider-Man (Volume 2)

Peter Parker: Spider-Man Vol. 2 was a 57-issue monthly comic-book series published by Marvel Comics in between 1999 and 2003.

The series was a continuance of Vol. 1, with the creative team having migrated to the new, identical title. The renumbering of the title to a new #1 appeared to be a marketing device intended to raise sales in the short term. The unimportance of the renumbering was highlighted when Marvel in June 2001 began a dual numbering system on all its titles that had been relaunched and renumbered. The first issue of Peter Parker: Spider-Man to be dual-numbered was listed as both #30 and #128 on the cover - the second figure acheved by adding the total of issues of the new volume (30) to the first volume’s 98. However, the comic’s legal indicia, printed on the title page, still listed the series as Vol. 2 #30.

Mackie and Romita Jr. remained through #20 (Aug. 2000) when writer Paul Jenkins and artist Mark Buckingham came aboard. Jenkins would go on to write the character over different titles for the next five years. Buckingham and Jenkins left Peter Parker: Spider-Man after #50 (Jan. 2003) and were briefly succeeded by writer Zeb Wells and an assortment of artists on what was meant to be a two-issue story before cancellation, but due to delays on the replacement book, became seven issues before the title was finally retired with #57 (Aug. 2003)

Introduction :

Kurosaki Ichigo looks just like any average 15 year old teenager with only one big difference; he can see ghosts/spirits. Rukia Kuchiki, a Shinigami (Soul Reaper) is out on a mission to find an evil spirit called a Hollow. The Hollow’s target is none other than Ichigo. Rukia and Ichigo confront each other for the first time. Ichigo’s family gets endangered by the Hollow and the only way to stop it was for Rukia, who was injured, to transfer her Shinigami powers to Ichigo who had a strong spiritual force. The first new Asterix album for four years has been eagerly awaited by his millions of fans

Excellent collection..but i have a suggestion. Can u possibly attach this new version of Asterix - falling sky on this thread, rather than just on rapidshare? I understand tat uploading onto rapidshare is much more easier than attaching smaller-sized files onto iphone-forum, but as this ecomic takes just 4 splits of the rar file, already converted conveniently to a size less than 10mb each, maybe u cud help? It'd sure be wunderful for those who are not very comfy wid rapidshare or megaupload. Thanx ;-)

Hey Layz, i think ur comics rock dude,,thanks alot from all us comics maniacs out there..just a small request though, would it be possible to put all the files in one RAR file and then upload it..cos rapidshare asks me to wait for 72 min aftr downloading one file..if its not too much trouble, would appreciate it dude

hi there. im just new here at the forum and i must say that all comic uploads are great... both for novice (like me) and collectors alike!

just curious though, is it possible to have some of the titles uploaded using other sites aside from rapidshare and megaupload. it seems that there networks are always full. based from experience 'upload.com' seems to be ok.

just a thought. thanks and keep up the great effort!

I think many french comics such as Tanguy et Laverdure, Michel Vaillant, Cubitus, Agent 212 has never been translated into English. Maybe that's why i never found their english edition anywhere :(
