Nope..this is evidently a driver conflict..u need not take a step as drastic as reinstalling windows just yet..try the following..
First download this utility called Driver Cleaner Pro
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
And latest drivers for your graphics card..
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
Install Driver Cleaner Pro.
Uninstall your current graphics driver, and then boot into safe mode.Run Driver Cleaner and clean all ATi drivers.
Now restart your pc in normal mode, install the new drivers, and there's around 90% chance your problem will be solved.
I hope you have the latest version of Direct X (9.0c with February update) installed.

I'm using ATI gecube 9550ee. You just need to use another ATI driver. You can download the lastest version at this address:

well i change to the newest ATI Cataylst as u suggested. Though it is MORE stable, but its still not very stable, because game randomly hangs and u need 2 press ALT+TAB then the screen changes 2 800*600 resolution. I say it improve a lot becoz the former driver when hanged, i need 2 restart computer.

no... no need to format.. i had the exact same problem with my amd athlon 1700+.. which is still being used by my bro... for this problem i did everytthin from formatting, to motherboard check up , to ram change to power supply change... but still the problem remained and the comp kept restarting while gaming... finally what i did was plugged the comp directly without any stablizer or ups... and found out that the problem was there in the stablizer... and now it works perfectly without restarting even while gaming... so i think the problem exists in ur power supply or ups or stabilizer... try it and let us know

hi mate, same problem as mine at ATi Radeon 9500 pRo..
I have figure it out and my current solution to that was.. switch to Service Pack 1..
I think for me, thats the only choice, most of us using Radeons has problem in Using at Service Pack 2.. Even the Catalyst 6.3 doesnt solved the problem.. If not autorestart, it hangs.. or the blue screen of death comes out..
I've been crazy for almost 3weeks just to know whats the real problem is.. and tried every OS i have, and only OS that has the problem is SP2 of XP.. I have searched every forum and found out that we are not the only one who have problems lyk that.. I think its driver error on SP2 or what..? And yet i haven't found any solutions for that..
Theres a new version of Catalyst which is v6.4, which i haven't tried yet. and still found out on different forums that there are still problems..
Or mate just incase, try this if it will help, download Driver Cleaner Pro which will clean all ATi remaining installation then start in a new set of driver, try 6.4. don't install the ATi Control Panel and disable AGP Fast write. Disable the Shadowing feature of smartgard.. and still if not worked... change.. no choice hehe~ :D

ok, just now i already posted the solution on neenee's post. Then only i realized that i should actually post the solution in this post which the title show the actual problem. Ok, as i said, there is 2 options, one downgrade to sp1. second, follow the following instruction (it works for bunch of people):
Right click-mouse over My Computer
Properties
Hardware(Tab)
Device Manager(button)
Click [+] next to System devices
right-mouse on CPU to AGP Controller (or whatever your controller is called, mine was SiS AGP)
Update Driver(button)
Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
Next(button)
Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.
Next(button)
Select PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
Next(button)
Finish(button)
Reboot.
Please let me know or pm me if this works for you..
Good luck (thanks to cobrakaun)
