no he cant do that as the bios password is required for booting the laptop... so if he cant boot it up, he wont be able to access dos....
what i would suggest is that u go to a dealer as u need to remove the cell which is present inside ur laptop which contains the memory of the password... it looks like a normal cell, the only thing u need to do is to remove the cell, boot ur notebook, switch it off, place the cell back and u r done....

Yup, gt thegame is right. Of course u will be ask for warranty card and invoice to proof that the laptop is yours before they will do it for you. The cmos battery location is quite difficult to find in laptop. gt_thegame do you know where is the battery location for compaq notebook?

At boot-up note the BIOS provider (Award, AMI, Phoenix, IBM, etc.)

For Award BIOS’ try these backdoor passwords:

j256
AWARD?SW
LKWPETER

awkward
CONCAT
d8on
CONDO
j64
szyx

For AMI BIOS’ try these backdoor passwords:

AMI
BIOS
PASSWORD

@candcom... the cmos battery in a laptop is not only difficult to find but also the location of the battery differs in each type of motherboard... so it is very difficult to say where the battery will be located on a compaq computer or any other... and i also would not recomend anyone to open a up a laptop as it is very different and difficult to open than a desktop... as i suggested earlier, go to a dealer or any computer shop,... they would do it for u 6600_6600

Techbug, as far as i know the password will work for older model but worth for a try. My suggestion, go to any compaq dealer and ask for their help. Of course you may need to pay for it.

Have you tried to download the lastest ROMPaq bios update? I do not know if it will allow you to flash a password protected bios or not. If it does, it might possibly remove the password protection.

Ya, m4ff3w way maybe workable. Give it a try and post your result. But flashing bios is no more joke, please follow the step carefully.

Guys... Please... Even to clear the password on LT is quite hard as we know right... If u don't know "How To" and "What To" can damage ur LT permanently... Better u took 2 the service center 'round u, the to take the risk... If u want to troubleshooting, try from the non-risk first... flashing ur lt BIOS can be fatal...

hyh...

I upgraded the bios once... with bios password on it.... and it didn't work
i mean... LT was all right ;) but the pass was still on the bios...

now I'll try what you guys sugested... first i'll check the software solution... like bios backdoor passwds, then i'll try some kind of dos removal tools or smth... and then... if that won't work.. i'll check the hardware method ;) (with the batteries and stuff like that)

I'll let you know how it was as soon as I'll finish ;)
thanks <beer>2

I even took the battery out of the mainboard for 2h.
Maybe I should use a hammer to 'crack' or 'smash' that password protection somehow ;)

anyway.. thank U ppl for any answers ;)

Bro, took out the battery for 2hr? do you remove your main battery while doing this? Removing cmos battery should really work.

what u have to do is remove the battery, boot ur laptop... switch it off, replace the battery and then switch it on again... that would remove the password...

BIOS-Setup-Password via Software
You can download the free, small program ctbios15.zip (ftp://ftp.heise.de/pub/ct/ctsi/ctbios15.zip) from the german Computermagazine c't ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). Ctbios shows the password and some other interesting things about your BIOS. (great tip!)
