-Someone please move this thread to its proper place... - OMW to sleep while doing this-
iDevice = iPod Touch / iPhone / iPad
*This should work for most of the recent iPod touches/iPhones TOO!!
It has been tested on an iPad 1 with iOS 5.0.1 Jailbroken
Basically, what we'll be doing here is back up all your data and install a switch that will allow your device to behave as if you didn't jailbreak it (speed and app reliability-wise i.e. MUCH More Reliable and Faster).P.S. The backup will require a LOT of space (at max a few times more than all space occupied on your iDevice)NOTE: I am NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHATEVER HAPPENS TO YOUR DEVICE/GOODS/PROPERTY/LIFE. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
-Important note: Read the Entire thing (tutorial) BEFORE trying to do ANYTHING-
RECOMMENDED: BEFORE DOING ANYTHING, BACK-UP ALL YOUR DATA LIKE THIS:
1. Get iFunbox [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
2. Install and Run it
3. Before PLUGGING IN YOUR iDevice press Ctrl + Shift + Esc (or enter your Mac task manager, dunno how), go to Processes, and End Process (Kill) iTunesHelper (and eventually iTunes)
4. Plug your iDevice in your machine
IMPORTANT NOTE: If your iDevice is seen as Jailed by iFunBox, have a look [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Now here is how to do a proper back-up:
******
Before doing this, you may want to print-screen (Press Home + Power button short simultaneously on your iDevice) each setting that MAY NOT BE SAVED, like Cydia Repos/Sources, Cydia Tweaks, Main Settings, Contacts, Notes, Messages, Safari Bookmarks?, Callendar Settings? etc...
Oh, and you may also what to take a screenshot of Each Springboard Page, so you know How you had your Apps and folders!!!
******
1. Make a directory on your pc for your iDevice's back-up
2. open iFunBox -> click (maximize) Connected devices - you should now see a list starting with "User Applications"
3. make a folder on your Pc for Each Cathegory in that list (I think you can't do it for the last 4 options - I really suppose it's safe to skip them)
4. Verify (Test) by (using) Right click on each option on that list to see if a list will pop out of them. If Yes and if Possible, use the Copy to Pc option From and For Each one of them
NOTE: USE THE FOLDERS YOU'VE JUST CREATED FOR EACH CATHEGORY AS STORAGE TARGETS
5. For the remaining Unable-to-copy-to-pc items in that list, do this for each one of them:
-left click on an item in the list
-left click on one of the apps/directories/items that will be displayed in the right side of the app
-press Ctrl + A
-Copy to PC
How to speed up your iDevice(ONLY FOR Jailbroken Devices) - MAKE SURE YOU'VE BACKED UP YOUR DATA
ATTENTION: DO NOT DO ANY UNINSTALLS (Preferrably ANY EDITING) to CYDIA/CYDIA-RELATED APPS WHILE IN "OFF" MODE (when MobileSubstrate will be disabled)- You may wake up with orphaned files on which you don't wanna spend time to fix
P.S. You will still be able to use Installous to get apps (but install from it doesn't work in "Off mode" - read on)
Basically, what we'll be doing here is adding a simple SwitchSubstrate cydia app.
Why to use it?
Because some apps will not work (on an iPad 1 for example) at all (or not even for a decent amount of time) - BUT They Will Work AFTER THIS
Download it from the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] repo from cydia
App name: SwitchSubstrate
After you've installed it (MAKE SURE YOU BACKED UP YOUR DATA), you can open it to turn off mobile substrate - this will speed up your iDevice drastically, although most (all?) of cydia's features will be disabled during "Off mode" - however, a few things that do not require "active" help from mobile substrate (such as iapfree) will not affect your free purchases. But your hidden files/folders will pop up at the end of your springboard apps and most other similar tweaks will work as if they weren't there.
Still, re-open SwitchSubstrate to go back to your "normal" iDevice after you've used it (If you toggle to it via iOS's multitasking panel, you will actually ask for another "On/Off" switch. Just close it and use it from your springboard when needed)

Restoring data (let's hope it will not come to this):
Just use iFunBox to Copy from PC and also make use of the Install App command.
Good luck, and enjoy your iDevices!
Questions & Answers:
Q: Help! I can't copy all my apps! It stops at some point!
A: Trace it by selecting half of them and copying them to your pc - start redoing traces of halves or backing up apps 1 by 1 in order to make sure all of them got through. Same thing could be done for other things like progress halts when copying folders
Q: My iDevice seems to be Stuck! What shall I do!??
A: I think a 10 min time-out is enough for you to notice if the device needs help (you may have to keep the Power button pressed in order to Re-start it - sometimes it may not restart from first time).
A2: Let your device as it is until its battery will be drained (1 day (12 hours?) should be enough) - re-plug it to your Apple power supply cord, leave it 15 mins, and try to re-start it (keep power button pressed)
P.S. After 1-2 toggles you will notice it will be much faster than a re-spring (as time taken to switch modes)
P.S. I can't seem to be able to get spoilers working???
