Thanks for the feedback. This is the info that I got from the TomTom agents in South Africa.
"If your TomTom Mobile 5 makes use of an SD card to store your UK map, then I imagine you can just purchase the South African map on an SD card for the device. I am not exactly certain if the in-car navigation map is entirely compatible with your cellular one, but I will find this out and get back to you.
In terms of the purchase, you have two options; You can download and install the map of South Africa off TomTom Home (software that came with your device) onto a SD card. You may need to buy a larger capacity memory card, and then you can store local and international maps on the same SD memory card. Alternatively, you can buy
a separate SD card just with the South African map on it as an accessory. As yet, the South African map is only available when you purchase a TomTom device for the time being, however both of these options will be available within the coming months. I will keep you updated as to when the map will be available
